Sharon Lynn Green of Henderson, Nevada, passed away among family and friends on the afternoon of January 12th at the Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas after a lengthy encounter with cancer.
Ms. Green was born on June 13, 1943 in Inglewood, California, the daughter of the late Betty (nAC.e: Lenz) Billings and Otis Clair Billings. The Billings lineage is traceable to Edward Fuller, a passenger on the colonial Mayflower voyage and signer of the Mayflower Compact! Raised in Pacoima in San Fernando Valley, Sharon was a graduate of John H. Francis Polytechnic High School, Summer Class of 1960.
In 1962 Miss Billings was married to Rodger Daniel Green of Dallas, Texas. Three children - Daniel Leslie, Steven Randal, and Barbara Christine - were brought up in this marriage.
Sharon was a devoted wife, mom, and friend. Kind-hearted and considerate with a quick wit and an easy laugh, she was loved by her family and had a loyal following of friends. Unique in her ability to be simultaneously forthright while tolerant of others, she made people feel comfortable in her presence. She was, indeed, a bright spirit - bright in every sense of the word - a spirit who will be missed by many for a very long time.
Ms. Green was also an accomplished stenographer. Her initial employment in the early 1960s was with Pacific Bell Telephone Company in Sherman Oaks. She then moved into work, for some years, in the motion picture and television industry holding positions as Executive Secretary for Leonard Stern at Desilu Productions in Hollywood, and in the William Morris Agency in Beverly Hills. From the late 1960s to the mid-1970s Sharon's efforts were given over to raising a family, living alternately in Las Vegas and Dallas. In 1975 and 1976 the Greens were owners/operators of a business in Searchlight, Nevada. In the late 1970s the family resided in Plano, Texas, with Sharon in the employ of Texas Instruments in Dallas. And from 1982 to 2006, back in Nevada, she was Management Assistant, first in the Department of Economics, and then in the Center for Business and Economic Research, at UNLV. Sharon enjoyed most of her remaining years in retirement in Boulder City and Henderson.
Predeceased by her husband, Ms. Green is survived by her brother, Gordon Truman Billings of Henderson. Her sons, Dan Green (Cristina) of Las Vegas and Randy Green (Donna) of Solomons, Maryland, and her daughter, Barbara Pope (John Sr.) of Henderson, are also survivors. And Sharon leaves five nieces, four nephews, six grandchildren (Brittney Marie Green, Alexandra Nichole Green, Chanel Green, Kianna Potter, John Pope Jr., and Kody Green), and one great grandchild.
A memorial service is scheduled for January 22, 2015 at 12:40 p. m. at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, Nevada. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Blue Star Mothers of Henderson & Boulder City (Chapter 4), P. O. Box 91073, Henderson, NV 89009, or a charity of the donor's choice. Family and friends can sign an online memorial guestbook at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com
