Shirley Rose (Matthews) Zupanic, 79, passed away suddenly November 22, 2014 at home in Boulder City. She was born March 25, 1935 at Dulwich Road, Herne Hill, London, England. While she was growing up, she was very close to her sister, Brenda, who was 1 year and 3 months younger than Shirley. During World War II they were evacuated to Wales, by themselves, with name tags around their necks and their gas masks. They were allowed to return when the war appeared to be ending.
Shirley met her husband, Frank Zupanic Jr. at the Lyceum Ballroom on the Strand in London, while he was stationed in England with the US Air Force. They were married on June 23, 1956. A twenty year Air Force career brought them to Boulder City in 1972.
She loved watching old movies, fishing and trailer camping in Nevada and Southern California. She never lost touch with her family in her native England and travel there several times. She made many special friends while working at Montgomery Ward in Las Vegas and later at the Railroad Pass and Goldstrike Casinos outside of Boulder City.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Percy John and Louisa May Matthews, a sister Louisa Florence Woollams and brother, Peter John(Marion_. She is survived by her husband Frank Zupanic Jr., her son Gary (Susan) Zupanic, daughters Cheryl (Steve) Davis and Donna (Patrick) Pimm as well as three sisters Brenda Tutton, Marge (Stanley) Tutton all of England, and Janet Campbell in Australia, plus six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Dec 1, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm at the Boulder City Family Mortuary. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Dec 2, at 9:20 am at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
