Stephen Sylvanie

Stephen R. Sylvanie, Sr, a 55 year resident of Boulder City, passed peacefully the morning of New Year's Day, 2014 after battling a long illness. Stephen was born to Harry and Ann Sylvanie in Cornwall, New York, October 22, 1948. Stephen was an active member of the community, was the President of the Lake Mead Enhancement Society, an avid hunter, antique collector, and award winning professional Bass fisherman. He served two tours in Vietnam earning him a Purple Heart and the Army Commendation Medal. He was well known by local youth in the 1980's - 1990's for owning "Blips," the only arcade in Boulder City. Stephen worked for the Herbst Corporation as their Fleet Manager before retiring last year. He was instrumental in building the habitat for, and stocking the local rural fishing pond at Veteran's Memorial Park. He is survived by his father and stepmother Harry and Jeannette Sylvanie of Beacon, New York, Sister Dr. Nancy Sylvanie and husband James, long time partner Kelly Jackson and her children Jake and Sophie Legat, his children, Michael Sylvanie of Santa Rosa, California, Stephen Sylvanie Jr of Henderson, NV, Thomas and Misty Sylvanie of Las Vegas, NV, Terry and Heather Sylvanie of Henderson, NV, William Sylvanie of Maryland, and grandchildren Haylee, Tanner, Kyle, Isabel, Maile, Malia, and Kailei. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to the Boulder City Parks and Recreation Department to further the stocking of the urban fishing pond at Veterans Memorial Park. Services will be held Tuesday, January 7th, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery. A reception will follow at 3:30 PM at Dillinger's in downtown Boulder City.
