Stuart Cocks

May 23, 1938 — August 20, 2019

Dr. Stuart McIntyre Cocks (Sandy), beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at the age of 81. Sandy peacefully passed away in his home, holding the hand of his cherished wife of 59 years, Susan, and surrounded by his 9 children and other family.

Sandy was born on May 23, 1938 in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania to Orrin Giddings Cocks, Jr. and Jean Myers Cocks. Sandy graduated from Watsontown High School in 1957. Shortly after his high school graduation, he joined the Marine Corp and served in the reserves for eight years. After a two and half year courtship, Sandy married his sweetheart, Susan Miscavage on December 16, 1960.

While serving as a Marine reservist, Sandy graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in Health Education from East Stroudsburg University. He then taught physical education in the Baltimore County School District for 14 years.

He received his Master degree in Psychology from Towson University in Maryland and his doctorate in Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1980. He then moved his family to Boulder City, Nevada where he had successful clinics in Boulder City and Las Vegas for more than 30 years. During his time in practice, he also served as a board member for the Cooperative Association of Chiropractic Physicians (CACP). Dr. Cocks retired from practice in 2011. Soon after retirement, he returned to his joy for teaching and worked as a substitute in the Clark County School District for several years.

Throughout his life, Sandy devoted his time and efforts to his love for his family and his faith. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served as a bishop in Baltimore, MD, bishoprics and high councils in Boulder City, NV, as a temple ordinance worker for many years in the Las Vegas Nevada Temple and in many other capacities. He spent countless hours visiting and ministering to others; often unrecognized and behind the scenes.

Sandy was full of compassion and loved to listen and connect with everyone, strangers, associates, and most of all, his family. He had a strong bond with each of his nine children, and always showed a sincere interest in their life and wellbeing. He maintained an eternal and unwavering devotion for the love of his life and sweetheart of over 60 years. His influence and example will be felt for generations to come.

Sandy is currently reunited with his parents, two brothers Terry and George, one sister Martha Jean, one granddaughter, Abbey Rose, and one great-grandson, Eli.

Sandy is survived by his wife, Susan, and nine children, Steve, Cathy (Kent Marshall), Dave, Betsy (Allen Stout), Deborah (Mark Lawter), Danny (Julia), Jenny (Mike Crowther), Bobby (Annie), Mikey (Mary), as well as, 39 grandchildren,13 great-grandchildren and one brother, James.
