Teresa Ann (Cheney) Blackburn Yost, 85, of Mesquite Nevada, passed away peacefully at Mesa Valley Estates on August 17, 2024. She was born April 2, 1939 to Harold C. Cheney (1913 – 1948) and Minnie DeBuhr Cheney (1918-1975) in Haxtun Colorado. She grew up in Haxtun where she and her sisters Velda Lee and LaVonne Kay were known as the “Cheney girls”. She was very busy with school activities and working with her mother and sisters in Minnie’s Cafe. In Highschool Teresa was active in the band, the school choir, and was a cheerleader for the football and basketball teams. She graduated from Haxtun High Shool in 1957.

Teresa met Hubert Loren Lahr Ollig when he was in town for work and they fell in love. They were married in February 1957 in Haxtun Colorado. After the wedding they moved to Wyoming where his job was based. They moved around with his job so they experienced much of the country. In 1958 Herb joined the army and was stationed in Germany. Teresa, Herb and their newly born Daughter Dawn Denise moved to Germany and took any opportunity available to tour the country. When they returned to the States he resumed his job and they continued to move around. Their son, Jay Douglas, was born in 1960 and a third child, April Renae, was born in 1962. Teresa and Herb divorced in 1962.

Teresa married Doyle Richard Blackburn in Reno, Nevada June 11, 1967 and they lived in San Jose, California until their divorce in 1978. Teresa remained in San Jose, working and raising her 2 younger children. Her daughter Dawn was married and living away from home.

In 1998, Teresa reconnected with Maynard Yost at school alumni reunion. They had known each other in school, and during their conversations they realized that the feelings they had as teenagers may still be there. In 1999 Teresa moved to Mesquite Nevada to be with Maynard. Teresa and Maynard married in September 2006 and they split their time between Sterling, Colorado and Mesquite, Nevada. They enjoyed golfing together and traveling abroad until his death on December 1, 2019. Teresa remained in Mesquite with the love and care of her daughter Dawn.

Teresa was preceded in death by father Harold Cheney in 1948, mother Minnie Cheney in 1975, husband Maynard Yost in 2019, son Jay Ollig in 2021, and sister Velda Barlow in 2023. She is survived by her sister LaVonne and husband Philip Hart of Haxtun Colorado: Velda’s husband Bob Barlow: Daughter Dawn and husband James Syling of Mesquite, Nevada: Rene’ Ollig (Jay’s widow) of Pine Grove, California; Daughter April and husband Keith Milne of Ben Lomond, California: Stepson Michael Blackburn and wife Kate of Colorado: Grand-children Rochelle Sammons, Jaclyn Oden (Bill Oden), Kayla Sammons (Art Papazyan) , Olivia Ollig (Michael Murray), James Milne, Carynn Milne and Taylor Milne: Step grand-children Melissa Gault and Derick Sammons: Great-grandchildren Trevor Sammons; William, Cody and Carly Oden; and baby-to-be “Jax” Papazyan: Several cousins, nieces and nephews: Maynard Yost’s children and their families.
