Las Vegas

Verleen (Walker) Bay passed away on July 25, 2024 in Cedar Hills, Utah. She was born May 17, 1938, in Mesquite, Nevada, to parents, Ernest Albert Walker and Julia Reber. She was the youngest of seven children. Her siblings are Brady, Brent, Lee, Hazel, Van, and Vivian Packer. Verleen attended VIrgin Valley High School and graduated in 1956. After high school she moved to San Diego, California, to work and made some lifelong friends while living there. She then attended Brigham Young University where she met Robert Ellis Bay. They were married August 8, 1959. They moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, and began their lives together raising a family. They were blessed with five children; Darren (Linda) Bay, Lisha (Tracy) Truman, Julee (Bryan) Willis, Brett (Rani)Bay, and Marcy Bay. While raising her family she worked for the Clark County School District as a substitute teacher. She attended UNLV and completed her bachelor's degree and started a career as an elementary school teacher. Her career began at Halle Hewetson where Gary Hafen (Mesquite) was her principal. She transferred to Stanford Elementary for the next twenty years. She loved meeting people and connecting with everyone. She served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in many callings throughout her life. Verleen had been involved in theater in high school and therefore became the Roadshow Queen in her ward for many years. She took a cake decorating class later in life and was pretty good at it as well. She made several wedding cakes as well as holiday themed cakes. She also took a painting class and would come home every week with a landscape portrait. Verleen and her sister Vivian were able to serve a couple of missions for the church. The first was to the Houston Texas Mission and the second was to the Little Rock Arkansas mission. Their focus was primarily on records preservation. They always met a sister Green in their mission and would become the Green Bay Packers. Verleen and Vivian spent the past couple of years in assisted living in Cedar Hill, Utah. Many angels (cousins) were there to assist in their care. Verleen is survived by her sister Vivian Packer, her 5 children and their spouses, 19 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Services will be lived stream via Facebook from Star Mortuary facebook page.
