William Ralph Klinger, 85, passed away April 26, 2015. A professional clarinetist, Bill started his musical studies in his native city of San Francisco and continued at the prestigious Juilliard School of Music where he received both a B.M. and M.M. After completing his studies, he served two years in the U. S. Army Band. When his military service ended, he freelanced for several years touring throughout the United States, Canada and Europe with prominent ballet and folk dance companies. In 1961, Bill moved to Miami, Florida to take the position of professor of clarinet at the University of Miami, Florida. He became principal clarinetist of the Miami Symphony and began a long career of working on symphony contract negotiations for the American Federation of Musicians. He was a member of Local 655's Executive Board where he served as Vice President. In 1994, he retired from active performing and teaching and moved to the Las Vegas area where he became involved with Local 369 working as their Symphonic Representative and Vice President. He is survived by his wife Maxine, a professional bassoonist; children Deborah and husband Glen Mehrbach, David, Judith and step-son Robert and wife Lisa Wechsler; and grandchildren Carly, Lennon and step-grandson Seth.
